Metal braces are the original orthodontic treatment method, and thanks to advancements in modern technology, braces are now more discreet, efficient and comfortable than ever.

How do metal braces work?

Metal braces work using a series of metal brackets, elastics, and then metal wires called ‘archwires.” When you sign up for treatment, we will fix a metal bracket to the front of each tooth - then, we will thread them together with the archwires, and hold it all in place with the elastics.

To guide your teeth into alignment, Dr Griffiths will place small bends in your archwires during regular adjustment appointments. This will create a targeted yet gentle pressure on your teeth to slowly push them into their optimal positions.

ICONIX aesthetic braces

How to care for fixed metal braces

While ICONIX metal braces are very strong, they aren’t unbreakable, and neither are your teeth! It’s important to take good care of your smile throughout treatment to prevent any damage or prolonged treatment times.

This means you should avoid excess sugar, as fixed braces provide extra places for plaque and bacteria to hide. You should also steer clear of very hard or sticky foods, which can damage your brackets or dislodge them from your teeth.
